Sunny AZ

So I'm currently sitting in the lobby of a hotel in Scottsdale waiting for my ride to get here and bring me to work. I flew out yesterday (Tues) and will ne here through Friday. I was really excited to come out because I have quite a bit of family here, but as it turns out my aunt and uncle are in mexico, one cousin is in MN, my dad was here last week and will be back next week, and my stepbrother goes to school at the U of Arizona but I won't have enough free time to go down to Tucson. Fortunately I have one cousin who I will be able to meet up and have dinner with. Probably at a place called Oregano's that has a huge mural of North Avenue Beach in Chicago, I find that comical.

So the Real World Party was a bit interesting. I saw a lot of things that can't be unseen between 9 and 6am, but fortunately most were good. It was funny to go through the timeline of events with my roommates as we got different perspectives on various events and were able to go, "wait, with who? where?" It was interesting.

Sectionals was a bit of a downer. We crushed on saturday going 3-0. Won our first game sunday 12-11 after being down 9-11. We then lost to machine but managed to put up a few points and I called a time out to try and keep my roommates from their precious football just a bit longer. After that we played the team we had beat in the morning and managed to lose 12-13 disqualifying us from regionals. Though we may still be able to go by default, so a little disappointing. Though, it means I'll be able to play with Public News Team, my fall league team, this weekend for the first time, which is exciting. Sunday wasn't all bad though as I was able to drown my sorrow in home smoked pork shoulder sandwiches, crisp cole slaw, and a mighty potato salad. We kind of need to throw a fake roommate of the year competition at our place and when Bryan's name is pulled from the envelope all look surprised. He also made 2 beer-can-chickens this past week. That was a good night too.

I'm currently reading Blue Highways, which I may have commented on before, but its one of my favorite books. Guy travels around America on the backroads in the late 70s and just records the conversations he has with people and writes about America. Its fantastic.

A rockin' weddin'

So my weekend started off with a bang, took off from work an hour earlier than I was supposed to, though quite by accident, and got home in time to go to Hot Doug's with Akira and kevin. There I ate wild buffalo sausage and cheese fries, we also talked the woman behind us through the process of ordering. She was a bit nervous and needed reassurances several times, I think she expected the encased meat nazi to be taking orders. Anyway, Hot Doug's, good as always.

Afterwards we did the roommate trip to target, and then to pick up yet a larger and more highly defined TV from Pfil that Akira was buying. Thankfully, through the wonders of technological progress, it managed to have a larger screen and weigh a lot less than akira's current tv, which was good considering the fact that the three of us will not be starting up a moving company any time soon.

So now we have a larger tv, its so big that you have to play guitar hero at a distance or else you sort of lose perspective on your surroundings and your life. This is easier now with our new wireless guitar hero guitar. its amazing, I haven't played with it yet, but I'm fairly confidant that you can rock out with it: hard.

Saturday brought practice and a day spent listening to indifferent jazz music while hanging out with very different friends. At one point I think we had 1.25 bottles of wine per person, incidentally I think thats a fairly good measure of expected enjoyment. Sunday brought a wedding at rockafeller chapel down at the U of C. Wow! I want to get married there, the space is just incredible. An opera chorus singing friend of the groom supplied the complementing audio to the stupendous visuals. After a good nap, we went off to the reception where I heard some very off the cuff wedding toasts, except the German's; his was quite on the cuff. After the toasts and the rather good lithuanian food and cake, the dancing commenced. That was fun, as it always is. It was amazing to watch rachael shake her hips much like a certain shakira song was imploring her to do. Fun wedding and reception. Though it was a bit daunting to be dancing under the gaze of several very stern looking gentlemen.

Monday I travelled from HP to Schiller Park back to HP for practice, because I didn't realize practice was at washington park; that was fun. Later Rachael and I grilled pizza, corn, yams, and made soup. I'll let the readership guess which one of those suffered in comparison to the others.
