yeah, thats a stupid idea

So I suppose 8 days between posts is better than 30, but its still not ideal obviously, oh well, maybe I flatter myself in supposing that people still read this. Anyway, into the recent developments of my life. So yesterday after winning both spring league games, most of my team went to Hot Doug's. Calling Hot Doug's a hot dog stand is like saying that cheese is enjoyable to eat, its true, but it doesn't really emody the experience that is possible when you eat there. I had the game of the week, Wild-Boar Sausage and split a duck sausage with foie gras with Mr. Cho. They were both very very good. Incidentally, foie gras consumption within chicago city limits will soon be illegal, and while I have no particular attachment to the food, it bothers me. Oh, we also split fries that were deep-fried in duck fat. Delicious. Its at the corner of california and roscoe if anyone's interested. Though be warned, upon arrival expect to wait at least 30 minutes before ordering no matter when you show up. Its hours are also rather narrow, 1030-4 closed on sunday. After that I played my 3rd Settlers of Catan game of the weekend with kevin, thor, and liz. After Kevin and I dropped the first two to the two newbies, I was pleased to put my whoop-ass hat back on and managed 6 points on my final turn to win the game. I was quite pleased. If you haven't played settlers you should know that its a pretty sweet board game, and that according to one Ben Grubb, apparently its all the rage with the UChicago Econ department's professors. Making its nobel prize winner:player ratio, surprisingly high I'm sure, at least in chicago. Allison can you ask Ethan to attain confirmation or refutation of this tidbit? I'm curious.

Today on my way to play ultimate I'm pretty sure I walked by the Governor's house. As suddenly I found myself in the midst of athletic looking gentlemen in suits, with ear pieces in their ears. It really tickles me that I live in the same neighborhood as the Governator. (After Schwarzenegger [or however you spell his name] I admit that I have less reverence for the office, and the same thing could be said about the presidency after watching ronald reagen act the drunken fool in Dark Victory). On the train on the way down I had a fellow come up and ask me for directions to Union Station. After informing him of the route I would take he then proceeded to kindly inform me of a thought he had recently. It went like this, "So I had an idea recently, I used to think that people throwing pennies on the ground was wasteful. But then I thought hey, we got the copper from the earth in the first place, so in a way we're returning it to the earth, which is a good thing, so maybe throwing pennies on the ground is a good thing." I, politely trying to fein interest, swallowed what I really thought and just said, hmmm thats interesting and then promptly resumed reading my book. I don't know, I guess its not the most wacky thought out there, but it bothered me. He looked like a sensible person too, oh well. It did get me thinking though if it was worth it to pick up pennies. I decided though that if you assumed you could pick up 2 a second, that makes $1.20 in a minute which I believe translates into $72/ hour. Not too shabby, the problem I suppose is the job security. Anyway, that's all I got for my now abbreviated readership today.

I've been away

So to put an end to the slow spreading awareness among my friends, through no fault of their own, I will now update this space on the more notable details of my life.

1. I have a job, it pays me money, I wish it paid me more. I'm an analyst at a used truck finance company. There's not a whole lot to say about it at the moment.

2. I have a room, it even has 4 walls as opposed to spilling over into the living room or into another guy's bedroom as some of my more absurd living arrangements have been, well, arranged for lack of a thesaurus. My roommates are bryan and kevin, with rick and akira receiving an honorary designation. Not a bad place, though one can hear most things from upstairs, like alarm clocks, dogs, african tribal music, and so on.

As I write this i can lay claim to something that amuses me greatly. I am currently on the #1 ranked open ultimate team in the nation after going 7-0 after winning a mediocre -team laden tournament in st louis. I'll probably keep playing with the team and so get to witness our slow steady decline to the middle of the rankings or our unforgettable undefeated run to glory. Either way I promise to stay the same person.

So based on the above I have new concerns, I worry about where dry cleaning is and how exactly one irons: a bit prosaic I suppose, but one tires of the constant freedom of leisure as well. The new neighborhood, which shall remain nameless as I'm not exactly sure which one it is, (probably albany park, but who's heard of that) is very exciting. The Reader printed up reviews of all the restaurants in the area about a week after we moved in, and I must say that I'm very enthused about the range of culinary options nearby. There are also about 20 taco/burrito/hot dog joins within a half mile, its my goal to figure out which is the best. The mexican bakery 2 blocks away is also a huge plus.

I'll try to be a bit more regular in my future postings. Admittedly, it shouldn't be hard.

Cheers.
